Primary diagnostics includes:

  • visual acuity test;
  • computerized determination of optic abnormalities;
  • selection of spectacles (if required);
  • determination of visual field using the standard method of perimetry;
  • examination of anterior chamber of the eye (to detect cataract, inflammation, etc.);
  • checking intraocular pressure (glaucoma tests);
  • examination of fundus of the eye (to detect retinal pathology);
  • ultrasonic diagnosis of eyes (if required);
  • setting of diagnosis and prescription of treatment.

Selection of spectacles of both simple and complicated formulation takes place after preliminary computerized examination of the optic system of the eye. While in the clinic, a patient can select a frame and required glass as well as order the manufacture of eyeglasses.

The selection of contact lenses takes place after preliminary computerized determination of abnormalities. Teaching patients how to take care of their lenses generally takes an average of 30 minutes to one hour. We explain the rules of keeping lenses and maintaining hygiene as well as the specifics of their usage. Our aim is for the patient to acquire the technique of putting the lenses in and taking them out under the care of medical personnel even at the first visit to the doctor.

Computerized automated refraction technique is an automated method of clear determination of such optical abnormalities as near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism. Computerized automated refraction technique helps the doctor to avoid mistakes in determining the kind of refraction, the degree of changes, and the specificities of astigmatism.

Ultrasound diagnostics of the eyebulb or B-scanning is a painless non-invasive procedure of detecting intraocular changes (hemorrhages, retinal detachment, destructive and inflammatory processes). Ultrasound diagnostics is required prior to surgical treatment for cataract extraction and a number of other procedures. The examination is conducted by the functional ophthalmologist in the course of 5–10 minutes. The results are printed and, if requested by the patient, saved on electronic media.

Pachymetry is the examination on optic coherent tomograph which allows measuring corneal thickness. The data obtained are valuable for detection of such pathologies as keratoconus, keratoglobus, and dystrophic changes of cornea.

As for computerized spherical perimetry, our clinic uses world-renowned “gold standard” – OCTOPUS 900 equipment, which allows for the earliest detection of changes in the sensitivity of cells of optic nerves and retina. This examination is essential for a number of diseases:

  • assumption of glaucoma (ensures 95% reliability of a correct diagnosis at primary stages of disease, when standard methods are not capable of detecting dangerous changes). It facilitates timely launch of required treatment and preserving eyesight for many years;
  • all kinds of glaucoma (for precise determination of the stage of the process and number of dead cells of the optic nerve);
  • for neurological damages of the eye (atrophies, edemas, congested optic nerves);
  • for central and peripheral damage of retina.

The results of examination are printed in the form of a color picture, which clearly shows the volume and degree of damage with the help of color scale. The equipment presents the scale of norms and deviations which enables easy analysis of changes for both the doctor and the patient. This method is critical for monitoring changes. It provides vivid demonstration of improvement or deterioration of the patient's state which is vital to control treatment efficiency.

No-contact, painless diagnostics of structures of neurosensor tunic of the eye – the retina. The examination is performed in safe infrared emission spectrum. It detects changes on histological level, as this technology is unique in its sensitivity and accuracy. This examination is irreplaceable for a number of eye diseases. It takes about 10–15 minutes and provides automatic analysis of the data obtained. The result is given to the patient in printed form; it is possible to obtain a copy on electronic media.

Also OCT allows investigating the angle of anterior chamber of the eye – the structure which conditions the disease called glaucoma.
